I thought this would be a more lighthearted post, after much heavy stuff. If you’re anything like me, you would know how serious split-end-picking is. It’s something I really, really need to work on. So if any of you relate to one of these, lemme know in the comments below.
So without further ado, here are all the time I pick my split ends.
1. When I’m Hungry

Seriously, when I haven’t had my food for the day all hell kind of breaks loose. Instead of lashing out on people, which I so easily can do with my serious case of hangriness, I decide to distract myself with my split ends. And usually it works.
2. When I’m Tired
When I am just not having it after around 6 hours of sleep, and I’m up for my 8:30s, it’s like my split ends are physically calling my name. Anyone agree? I cannot resist them, and it’s almost like they are a place of rest for me.
3. When I’m Thinking (which is unfortunately all the time)

If something is ever going on, and I need to ponder, I will just look and voila! There they are. Always there for me when I need them. And I’m able to think and think and pick and pick, and I feel completely content. Maybe too content.
4. In class
Gosh, this is such a real one. I love to learn, so usually I’m pretty engaged, but sometimes when the prof goes on a tangent where they are getting super passionate about something that seriously no one is as in love with, I tend to wander. I tend to look out of the corner of my eye and see my split ends just begging for attention. They most certainly were tended to while I was in accounting.
5. When I’m Worried
So I hate to say it, and this is something I am working on. But I am a HUGE over-thinker. And so I mostly am always picking these when I have an issue, and the only thing I can control is the amount of split ends on my head. Which makes a lot of sense actually, and I don’t think that’s a healthy coping mechanism at all.
6. When I’m Having a Bad Hair Day
When I rolled out of bed, or when my hair is just super uber greasy which is TMI, I usually tend to my ends. Ugh. I’m ashamed writing all of these things.
And ya know what? I think subconsciously I am thinking I am doing myself a service for picking these babies off, when I’m actually making my hair worse. Studies show that picking your split ends actually split the hair even more, and make the damage goes right to the follicle. So I really need to stop doing this and find some sort of split-end cream. If any of y’all have any suggestions, I’m completely open to listen.
And just hopefully, I will still have hair in a few years. Pray for me.
Xoxo,
Ash
