Top Seven Books To Read This Winter

Hey y’all! Lately I have been getting some requests on book recommendations. In this time of snuggling by the fireplace and cozying up under the covers with a good book, it’s important we are using this time wisely. So without further ado, here are top 7 book recommendations for the winter months.

1. Hillbilly Elegy

Friends, I finished this book in 2 DAYS. And that’s not me bragging about how much of a book nerd I am, but has more to do with the fact that I physically couldn’t put it down. Granted, I was on a beach vacation when this book was in my life, so there wasn’t much to do but read, but I don’t regret making my life surround around this puppy.

It’s about the life of JD Vance, an Ohio native who grew up in the poor areas of the Appalachia, saw the trends of poverty in his friends and family, served in the Marines, and then managed to get a college degree, get a law degree from Yale, and now works at a top investment banking firm with his family. If that’s not making it, I don’t know what is. Also, if this guy can get out of the cycle of poverty, I can wake up for my four 8:30am classes next semester.

2. Of Mess and Moxie

If you want to have a good laugh, I’d recommend you sitting down and letting Jen Hatmaker take you down her world of good sarcasm. There were several times I found myself laughing out loud while reading this, and I’m sure my mom thought that was a bit odd while she was reading next to me. But she has to understand, it’s Jen, and it’s so darn hard to hold in the chuckles when hearing her jokes.

3. Imagine Heaven

This book is really darn eye-opening, and it is written by a doctor who kept seeing his patients go through near-death-experiences (NDEs). These are true stories, where he goes over the different accounts he has heard and the correlations between all of them, and a picture of what is waiting for us on the other side of life.

4. A Dog’s Purpose

Just saying, you will cry. But it will be worth it. This is about life through the lens of a cute lil pup. And cmon, just look at that cover. How could you not read it?

5. Reading People

I’m all about trying to understand the people around me, so this is a book I was excited to open up. It carried me through the different MBTI personality types, what a highly sensitive person is (which this opened the floodgates for me), and taught me about the Strengths Finder. If you are interested in understanding yourself and the people around you, this would be the perfect book for you.

6. Gone With The Wind

Okay, granted, I haven’t finished this sucker yet, but it is a classic about survival and overcoming hardships. And even though we don’t like Scarlett O’ Hara, we can’t help but root for her.

7. Emma

You just can’t go wrong with Jane Austen. You really can’t.

Happy reading loves!
