6 Summer Workout Routines For Your Personality

Your workout might say a bit about you.

I just moved to Nashville and do not have a gym nearby. After eating the incredible food here and sitting on my butt, I found that I was gaining more weight than I would’ve liked, and I needed a workout to fight the taco-weight. I became motivated to find a workout class that I would be devoted to.

Your girl tried everything. From spinning, to running, to bootcamp-style, to barre. I’ve tried so many gosh darn classes. It was easy to do this because most of the first classes were free #thankyouNashville.

But I haven’t loved all these classes equally. Some I am super fond of, and others I’m looking for the clock to see when it’s over, questioning if I’ll make it out alive.

Believe it or not, the workout you love the most actually says something about you. Check out the workouts below to see where you fit.

1. Crossfit (aka. Boothcamp)

Personality: Competitive, over-achiever, former athlete, likes Shawn Booth.

Boothcamp

I went to Shawn Booth’s “Boothcamp”, a gym here in Nashville that is a very intense workout with a lot of equipment I can’t particularly name or understand. It’s very similar to crossfit and HIIT.

I heard the best things about this workout, but I also heard that it is likely your first time you go that you throw up or faint. I went, and I absolutely couldn’t wait for it to be over. Not because it was a bad workout, but because it was not for me.

The kind of person who thrives in this kind of jig is competitive, and a former athlete who is used to getting yelled at or running excessive wind sprints. BUT if you love a kick in the butt and competition, this is the perfect workout for you.

2. Yoga

This photo is so #chillgirl.

Personality: Total #chillgirl, peaceful, quiet.

If you love yoga, you’re probably, like, realllllly chill. and for that, I am very jealous of you. Yogi’s are also not looking to lose a ton of weight. They are there for other reasons, to become “one” with themselves, to be more mindful, to find peace. Oh, and to get more flexible.

3. Pure Barre

Personality: Driven, busy, working on that self esteem

Barre is a bit more competitive than yoga, but not as questioning-if-you’ll-make-it-out-alive as crossfit. It’s also not a super competitive environment. Instead of focusing on being better than the person next to you, the class encourages that you focus on your own movements. You don’t question if you are going to make it to the end of the workout, and even if things burn, you know you are going to survive. Also, you are a sucker for words of affirmation, because these instructors are basically trained in that regard.

4. Running

Personality: Perfectionist, confident, self-starter

These are the people that are rare species, who actually enjoy running. I will never understand you, but I want to be you. I’d give my right arm to enjoy running. Instead, I can barely make it a mile without making a total scene in my neighborhood. Y’all are the ones we just can’t figure out, the really ambitious go-getters who never give up.

5. Solo

Personality: Workout junkee OR junk-food-lover-and-barely-makes-it-to-gym

If you go to the gym alone, you’re either A. really on top of your workout regimen and don’t need a coach to help you or B. Barely go to the gym so when you do, you end up going alone and leaving early. I am in the second one of these categories.

6. With a friend

Personality: Smart, multi-tasker, busy

You are smart, because you know that if you go alone, you will find an excuse and never make it through the doors. Working out is something you dread, so you pair it with seeing a friend so you know you’ll look forward to it more. You’re also a go-getter, and you know you can combine friendship and self-care all in one whole hour.

I hope you’ve learned a little bit more about yourself through your favorite workout. It’s safe to say that what we spend time doing say something about us, especially the way we choose to lose all those calories. Next time you are at your workout, be mindful of the people around you and why they like the drill. You might see that you have more in common with them than you think.
