7 Tips For A Well-Spent Winter Break

Because this time does not need to be wasted.

Winter break is a relief. You can be lazy, sleep in much later than you would at school, and binge-watch Netflix shows you’ve been dying to watch. You can be of no value to society whatsoever. And what’s not to love about that?

But eventually a couple weeks will roll around, and you’ll start to feel a bulge in your belly and your favorite shows will lose their flame. Boredom will creep up on you like a stray cat. And just like that, you are just dying to get back to school and your normal routine.

But what if this time could be time well spent?

College is great, but there are very few times in life when you can have weeks off from the rest of the world. There are simple steps to not only get through winter break but also make it count.

1. Workout

Make sure to keep yourself in shape during this break. Not only will it make you feel better, but it will also increase your productivity. You will start to feel like you are actually achieving something with your days. I’ve been going through Kayla Itsines BBG workout and lemme just tell you, she kills me. But in the best way. I promise, you will love this workout.

2. Get a job

Even if you don’t like to work, getting a job this break will be very beneficial for you. You will have new people to meet and you will make some money, which is a foreign concept for us college kids. When college is the perfect time to be broke, this is an opportunity for turning things around in your bank account.

3. Catch up with old friends

Take some time to ask about your friends’ new lives. Chances are they have so many stories to tell, and you can both take the time to share what you have learned in this past semester.

4. Read a really good book

Though it is important to not be a bum, winter break is a perfect time to relax. The best way to relax in my eyes is to immerse yourself into a timeless story. Right now I’m reading “If You Only Knew” by Jamie Ivey. Make sure to check out our Instagram as well every Wednesday for #BookwormWednesday.

5. Plan for your future

Do you want to apply for internships? Is there a club you want to get involved in next semester? Winter break is the perfect time to piece these priorities out, and even send out some crucial applications.

6. Prepare for the next semester

Do you need to get ready for recruitment? Check out my in-depth guide on everything you need to know to thrive during rush. Or if there are classes you need to prepare for, this is a great time to brush up on some subjects.

7. Do something you have always wanted to do, but never had the time for

Whether it is getting your nose pierced or thinking of starting your own website, consider taking the time to do those things. Now you have the time and the lack of school stress to do something you genuinely have always wanted to do.

This winter break doesn’t have to be boring, it can actually be a great time for other priorities to take place. By the end of the break, you’ll be so glad you made this break count.
