I find that so many people are negative. Yes, it is negative for me to say this in itself, but c’mon people. Cheer up!
People look at shootings and make nasty comments about the world, saying it is an evil place. Others look at hate crimes and say “you can’t trust anyone anymore”. This poor attitude is not making anything in our society better, it is only making the world more sour.
This life is not about being safe. This life is not all about how happy you can be or if you can live it “smooth sailing”. How selfish is it that we try to make it like that?
This life is a sum of how many people you have positively impacted. This life is about how you can be useful and helpful for others. If you look at life through a bitter lens, you are going to be miserable.
This world is an imperfect, broken place. It is as simple as that. But just because it is broken, does that mean that we have to be negative towards it? Does that mean we have to give up hope in adding a little of our own beauty to it?
We can complain all we want. It is more easy to be negative than to look at the glass half full. But just because it is easy to be negative, doesn’t mean we should be negative. If we complain without thinking of a solution, we are just wasting this precious life we live.
Instead of adding into the negativity that surrounds us, let’s make the decision to be different. Let’s decide to be the light.
I picture it like this, a room that is pitch dark. You can see nothing, you can achieve nothing. If you are trying to fix something in a pitch black room, you can’t. However, when you find a light that you can plug in, the room is brighter. Burdens are lifted, and you can reach the solution to your problem.
Light spreads quickly. If one person is in a room full of 500 negative nellies, and that person chooses to be the light, the room dynamics would shift. And it would be for the better. This person would make a difference, even if it doesn’t seem like it.
In a world as dark as ours, we need light. God didn’t even intend for this world to be completely black, considering the beautiful stars and moon that light up the midnight sky. He wants us to be the stars. He knew this world would not be perfect, and he knew we would need inspiration. This makes sense when God said “let there be light”. He doesn’t want us to look at life like it sucks and that there is no hope. He wants us to make it full of joy for everyone we meet, no matter where that person is at.
When everyone around you is telling you how awful the world is, ask them how they are going to make a change. If they can’t answer that question, they are just being negative for the sake of being negative. And if they do have a solution, give them a nice pat on the back, because that is awesome.
Don’t get sucked into the negativity. Instead, shine your light. As long as you are still on this earth, you can make a difference to shape this world for the better.
Xoxo,
Ash
