In college – it’s okay to take it day by day.
I have had my fair share of struggles in college. I recently noticed a staggering statistic that showed I wasn’t alone. A recent study says that 60% of college students have felt “overwhelming anxiety” in the past year.
It’s time we fought this anxiety. I am so excited to share this new podcast series on conquering college stress. Over the next couple of weeks, several college women who have their sh*t together are coming on the show to help us figure our lives out. They share their own stories of conquering their own college hardships, and their advice on having a fulfilling four years (warning – this includes an organized sleep schedule.)
My own story of dealing with college stress
First up is my story of struggling in college – featuring me crying in public. As a matter of fact, I sincerely wish I could say this meltdown happened a year ago, and that I do not do these things anymore. But it was actually the other day. So basically, I need this advice just as much as anybody.
I broke down in a local coffee shop because I felt so overwhelmed with the many things that come with being a student: scheduling, planning for the future, boys, you name it.
After my meltdown, I walked my butt home with a tasty, high-calorie coffee cake in my hand. I got home, plopped dramatically on my bed and cried some more (whilst eating the coffee cake, if you can imagine). And then, I skipped class, and instead watched Perks of Being a Wallflower. I felt infinite.
In my reflection, I learned that the world will not stop if I don’t “do” all the time. I don’t need to have my entire future figured out – I can take it day by day.
It’s okay to rest, my friends. We do not need to be superheroes every day. The present is where we will stay.
