Today is a wonderful day to celebrate. Not because everyone else in America is celebrating, or because it’s a holiday, but because it marks the single greatest miracle in history. It celebrates the day Jesus conquered death.
Circumstantially, I had a heavy heart today. But because of Jesus, I was able to cling to truth. No matter how alone I feel in my battles, I know God is with me for every second of every day.
Many people choose to celebrate Easter because everyone else is, or it’s the “American” way to go about things. We shouldn’t celebrate this holiday because of the sun that peaks out, or the flowers that are blooming, or the nice Spring breeze, or the wide assortment of chocolate we get to eat. Yes, these are all wonderful aspects of Easter. But these should not be the primary reasons we celebrate.
Because of Jesus, we are always with Him. When days come that are hard to sustain through, when heartbreak and confusion takes a toll, the Spirit will show me the way. We will be given love, joy, peace, kindness, patience, self-control, and forbearance. And it’s not because of anything we did, but because of what was done for us.
We can rejoice and be glad during any time of our lives, whether it be a relationship breaking, a lack of goodness in a job, a failed grade in a class, a guy that doesn’t treat us well, gossip being spread, or the future looking unsure.
Because of Jesus, we can be joyful always. Yes, my heart is heavy today, but I know I can cling to truth. He uses everything for a purpose.
For the next 28 days, I am going to cling onto His wisdom. Until mother’s day, I am going to look for him working in my life and trust him in the storms. I am going to be grateful for everything that’s been done for me instead of wishing for things outside my control. I challenge you to do the same.
This day is a celebration of everything that has been done for us. This is what Easter should mean to us.
He is good. No matter what the heck our lives look like, he is good.
Friends, this is a truth that sets us free. And we are free, indeed.
